What are essential omegas?

The body is made up of trillions of cells. The two essential fatty acids (or EFAs)—omega-3 alpha linolenic acid and omega-6 linoleic acid—are responsible for vital biological functions in every cell including membrane structure, growth and division, gene expression, cell-to-cell communication, hormone production, receptor function and energy production.

Sufficient EFA levels are critical to the optimal functioning of the brain, liver, kidneys, heart, and all other glands and organs.

The body lacks the enzymes to make both EFAs from other nutrients and must get them from dietary sources. Hence, the name "essential". While non-essential fats and oils are relatively stable, fresh EFA omegas easily degrade and become rancid. Herein lies the challenge.

What are probiotics?

The human body is a walking ecosystem. Ten times more bacterial cells live on your skin and in your GI tract than human cells live in your body. This is your 'microbiome'. It creates thousands of unique molecules affecting your health, both good and bad.

Probiotics—Lactobacilli, Bifidobacteria, and other 'friendly' bacteria—are a natural defense system throughout your GI tract. They keep 'bad' bacteria in check, help digestion, make B and K vitamins, stimulate mucin secretion along the gut lining, turn prebiotic fiber into short chain fatty acids to feed cells lining your colon, and break down bile acids and toxins.

But their health benefits extend far beyond your GI tract, profoundly affecting metabolism, immunity, health, and psychology.

What are digestive enzymes?

The foods we eat are useless without digestive enzymes, specialized catalysts that break foods into absorbable nutrients: amino acids, fatty acids, simple sugars, minerals, vitamins, and more. Life uses these nutrients to construct, repair, and energize our trillions of miraculous cells, as well as tissues, glands, organs and systems—heart, brain, liver, kidneys, bones, lung, skin, and all the rest.

In a perfect world, digesting enzymes come from two sources. Enzymes naturally present in raw foods do about 60% of the work (from 10-90%, depending on the kind of food). Our body completes the job with digestive enzymes made by the GI tract (salivary glands, stomach, pancreas, small intestine).
