Spomenka

Dear Madam / Sir, Please let me know if this product is recommended for moderate gastritis and GERD. Thank you very much. Sincerely Spomenka

FloraHealth Canada

Hello Spomenka,
Swedish Bitters can increase stomach acid so may not be recommended in some cases of gastritis and GERD. I would suggest our FlorAntacid as a good choice for all cases.
Best regards,
Flora Health

Hi, my grand daughter is 5 months old, suffering from eczema, may I know if I could give her your alcohol free Swedishbitters in very small diluted amount?

FloraHealth Canada

Thank you so much for checking. While I understand how difficult it must be to see a little one with eczema, Flora does not suggest the Swedish Bitters for a baby of 5 months. Even in a very diluted format, it is not recommended.

Youngsters have a natural aversion to bitterness as a protective mechanism for good reason. The product is likely much too strong for one so small. Plus, there are no studies of bitters for children's eczema, so the risk/reward ratio is not worth trying it.

However, there IS something natural with plenty of studies for children with eczema - Efamol brand Evening Primrose Oil. It is proven and has Health Canada approved claims for reducing the itchiness caused by eczema.

Efamol use a special evening primrose flower variety and the GLA oil from the seed of that flower is quite helpful. AND, it has been subjected to extensive toxicology tests to ensure it is safe, even for babies as young as 1 year old, which is very rare!

It would be safe to put the oil on the skin (externally). The Efamol bottles have a dose from one year and up, and with the oversight of a health practitioner familiar with your grandchild, guardians could be guided for an oral dose appropriate for her.

I would follow whatever the health practitioner suggests.

Side effects are very rare but giving too much could in rare cases cause nausea, soft stool, or other gastrointestinal disturbances, so I would get some guidance on dosing.

Additionally, digestive upsets can usually be eliminated by taking the product with food.
The health practitioner may suggest adding it to their food if they eat already, but do note that if the child is not already eating other fats, it may be best to wait another month or so until they are accustomed to digesting fat.

Another product to consider adding in future or to discuss with the health practitioner would be the Toddler's Probiotic powder. There is a known link between the microbiome and eczema.

Best of luck!

Is this product recommended for individuals with IBS and Diverticulitis? I just suffered a flare up and now on a liquid diet till tomorrow.

FloraHealth Canada

Hi Terry,
No, Swedish Bitters isn't recommended for people with IBS conditions. We do have IBS Relief though (soluble fibre clinically proven to help alleviate both constipation and diarrhea for those with IBS).
